New Point-of-Care CLIA Waived COVID-19 Antigen and Antibody tests.

Idaho Health Care Services now offers a COVID-19 antigen test in addition to the antibody and PCR virus tests already being offered. In 10 minutes the antigen test can detect new coronavirus infections as little as 2 days post-exposure. Both new antigen and antibody tests are CLIA waived meaning that any healthcare worker operating under a CLIA certificate of waiver, compliance or adherence may administer them.

Temperature Checks May Not Adequately Screen Against COVID-19 Contagiousness

According to a May 3rd article in the Idaho Statesman: https://www.idahostatesman.com/news/coronavirus/article242327361.html

“Through March, Idaho’s nursing homes began to lock down and not allow visitors. They began to check the temperature of anyone who entered. But those measures could only help so much, because someone who is contagious with COVID-19 may not have a fever right away — or ever.”

This is why testing is critical. The blood drop antibody test which is 93-98% accurate (chance of a true positive) for active infection (IgM*) can be done on the spot in 10-15 minutes without the need for lab processing. In contract the nasal swab PCR test requires processing by special lab equipment, is only 70% accurate and takes several hours to several days to get results.
